SENIOR ELECTRICAL STANDARDS ENGINEER - JACKSONVILLE, FL
Purpose of Position

Electrical Standard Engineering encompasses the review of designs, systems, assemblies, sub-assemblies, components and analysis of parts; generating the associated drawings and instructions needed for manufacturing a product.

Under limited direction, this person will perform a variety of complex engineering assignments requiring in-depth knowledge of a specific engineering discipline plus an understanding of related disciplines to cost-effectively achieve objectives; assignments typically require the use of advanced and innovative techniques. This person will also proactively seek and implement initiatives to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction.
 

Essential Functions:

  • Review design and develop complex models or simulations, apply advanced computer programs, analytical techniques and/or control strategies to effectively meet requirements and resolve problems on maintaining LV and MV products.
  • Provide accurate and comprehensive product documentation including product capabilities, limitations and application details for all internal Customers.
  • Review Designs, analyze and evaluate systems, products or components requiring a high degree of technical expertise.
  • Act as the Principal Investigator and/or lead a group of engineers investigating problems, developing solutions, preparing related recommendations and reports.
  • Conduct economic studies and prepare (or lead the preparation of) specifications, proposals for contracts, licensing and safety documents, etc. of material standards – this may also involve obtaining required approvals.
  • Provide technical support for production teams relating to standard products, primarily for data center or other repeatable applications.
  • Assist in defining and documenting new product development project specifications and scope based on input from IEM sales, engineering and senior management.
  • Assist in definition and requirements for test programs required for projects. Prepare all technical reports.
  • Represent the group in meetings, conferences and interact with internal Customers to resolve significant technical issues and develop related action plans.
  • Assess and review materials requirements and specifications, provide technical direction or consultation. Seek innovative materials that improve reliability, performance and reduce costs.
  • Coordinate technology transfer to manufacturing operations.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • 5-8 years of experience designing LV/MV Switchgear or Related Products
  • BSEE or equivalent in experience
  • Knowledge of UL / IEEE standards for various types of electrical equipment (UL 891, 1558, 508A; IEEE C37.20, etc.)
  • Must be a team player with strong verbal/written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with precise attention to detail
  • Competency with CAD software and Microsoft Office products
  • Familiarity with the NRTL evaluation and certification processes an asset
  • PE License in Power System. (preferred)
  • Strong proficiency working with CAD and PLM Tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PDM, etc.). (preferred)
  • Recent experience performing power modeling, electrical calculations. (preferred)
  • Recent experience working with the design of industrial power products – experience working with the development of customized Switchgear is preferred (development of complex Switchgear electrical design is heavily preferred).
  • Experience working with power products development projects in cross-functional teams – component design and systems design experience will be considered. (preferred)
  • In-depth knowledge of Finite Element Analysis [FEA] on high-voltage stress, power transformer field flux calculations and switchgear dielectric failure. (preferred)
  • Experience working under related industry standards: ANSI/IEEE, CSA, NEMA, UL, IEC etc. (preferred)
  • Broad knowledge of multiple engineering fields to influence direction of engineering efforts and coordinate engineering projects. (preferred)
  • Extensive experience reading and creating electrical drawings. (preferred)
  • Ability in adapting to changing technology, presenting proposals, and conceiving / fostering introduction of new concepts and approaches.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
