SENIOR BUILDING ENGINEER - FREMONT, CA
Purpose of Position
The Senior Building Engineer will work closely with the Facilities Director to support all facilities work related to our buildings and equipment. This person will instruct and guide directives while being involved in one or more of the skilled activities. This person will have exceptional customer service abilities and extensive technical knowledge. This Engineer will make sure the building’s equipment and amenities are always in excellent working condition.
Essential Functions:
- Coordinate (with approval from the facilities director) facilities activities, work direction, and support systems.
- Train future facility employees and supervise contractors as needed.
- Create, update, and implement SOPs
- Assist facilities staff in locating parts, supplies, and materials.
- Help mentor and train all facility technicians and supervise contractors as needed. Offer suggestions for performance evaluations.
- Maintain interior building equipment, electrical outlets and appliances, lights, doors, walls, plumbing, HVAC, woodwork, carpentry, etc.
- Fabricate, construct, and repair; such as metal and wood structures, furniture, and facilities equipment. Arrange exterior parts for varnishing and painting and apply surface cover ups as necessary.
- Solicit bids and quotes from vendors as needed or directed
- Performs electrical work and determines when an outside electrician is required.
- Carry out diverse heating, plumbing, and refrigeration related tasks for the buildings.
- Develop an inventory of light bulbs, closures, ceiling tiles, keys, bathroom parts, fixtures, desks, chairs, valves, etc.
- Understand the CMMS system, including receiving work requests, providing updates, and marking them complete.
- Guarantee adherence to safety practices and principles.
- Work with diverse machines and equipment, such as hand and power tools, and drill presses and saws in carrying out maintenance and repair tasks.
- Ensure the maintenance of equipment and tools in a clean, secure, and appropriate working condition
- Engage in thorough troubleshooting to replace or repair fans and motors, belts, clocks and lightening circuits, as well as audio visual and communication equipment.
- Engage in diverse skill activities such as repairing the doors, windows and other building components.
- Make an estimate of the cost of labor and items needed for work orders; acquire competitive prices for supplies and equipment
- Monitors contractor performance and work closely with outside vendors and contractors to ensure work is completed according to specifications
- Weekday and weekend on call responsibilities
- Assist the facilities director in all aspects of project implementation as needed.
- Support the Facilities Director with external contacts as needed.
Travel and Licensing:
- While most materials are delivered to job sites, the role may occasionally require travel to obtain parts or transport equipment to off-site facilities.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle.
- On-call availability for emergency response during non-standard hours is required.
Physical Demands:
- Activity Levels: This position requires the ability to sit (approximately 30% of the time) and walk/stand (approximately 70% of the time).
- Lifting: Must be able to regularly lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Mobility: Frequent bending, twisting, and general physical labor are required. May need to climb ladders and perform tasks that require balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree.
- 6+ years of working as a Facilities Tech or building engineer
- Bachelor’s degree or technical studies equivalent preferred
- Ability to be the Directly Responsible Individual for a facility and is a trusted person to be the Point of Contact when the facilities director is away.
- Must be able to prioritize work based on urgency
- Must be able to navigate in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- Attention to detail and maintenance all work in a clean and organized fashion
- Self-motivated individual with organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work with diverse, dynamic team effectively
Preferred Qualifications:
- OSHA Compliance Training (some training is required)
- Electrical certifications
- HVAC certifications
Salary Range: $60.00 To $70.00 Hourly
