AUTOMATION ENGINEER - JACKSONVILLE, FL

Purpose of Position:

This position is responsible for programming, developing, configuring, testing, training and providing remote support for PLC, HMI and SCADA and advanced industrial communications systems as part of switchgear and related power products.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Analyze specifications provided by the customer.
  • Identify hardware and software solutions for application in switchgear and power products.
  • Complete programming assignments utilizing PLC/HMI’s, protective relays, industry-specific dedicated automation controllers and networking equipment
  • Translate sequence of operations into hardware/software solutions.
  • Lead shop testing and support startup efforts for advanced automation projects.
  • Attend site meetings and walk-throughs; provide input to engineering and sales teams on automation and switchgear solutions within IEM products.
  • Coordinate with project team members to determine timescale for implementation, configuration, and troubleshooting to ensure successful project completion.
  • Provide training, technical guidance and support to field engineers and test technicians for systems with advanced industrial Ethernet networks, communications, and automation systems.
  • Document and ensure design specifications, installation instructions, and other system related information are created for each project.
  • As required, travel to customer sites to support other techs/engineers with commissioning/troubleshooting of projects with automation and networking elements.
  • Perform other duties as be assigned by supervisor.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from a four-year college or university or 4 years of direct experience programming PLC/HMI’s for switchgear applications.
  • At least 2 years of experience with Automation/Control Systems.
  • Advanced Industrial Ethernet and Network Management Protocols
  • Time synchronizations protocols such as PTP and NTP
  • PLC/HMI programming for switchgear and/or industrial control applications
  • Familiarity with IP networking concepts including: switching, subnetting, routing, firewalls, QoS and NAT
  • Familiarity with common communications link methods and media including: 10/100/1000 Base-T(x) Ethernet, Fiber Ethernet, RS485, etc.
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850 protocol
  • Hands on computer and network configuration experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • This position requires up to 40% travel.  Frequently travel is outside the local area and overnight.

 


PROJECT MANAGER (SWITCHGEAR) - JACKSONVILLE, FL

Purpose of Position:

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following for our key enterprise clients.

 

Essential Functions:

Reconcile IEM production plan with requested on-site dates/quantities for each site issued (minimum weekly, often multiple times per week). Order management (O/E) and releases to production. Administering and coordinating customer’s entire cycle and COMPLEX SCHEDULING will include but not limited to:

  • Significant track and reporting of such things as purchase orders and deliverables
  • Participate in weekly/daily scheduled production update meetings with customer and contribute status information.
  • Manage build quantities, tracking delivery address and site contact information
  • Ongoing daily communication with various departments in customer regarding capacity, inventory, ship dates, delivery dates, pull-ins, push-outs, delivery addresses, contact information, requests for documents, etc.
  • Coordination of Construction schedules, shipment of finished goods, Vendor Management Inventory and the product planner in the plant, and Field Service for start-ups/commissioning
  • Keeping customer appraised of ship dates, changes, etc. and keeping things “on track” with delivery coordination at each site
  • Coordinate with Production, Materials Group, Engineering, Commercial Sales, Shipping to manage and fulfill change orders or back orders at all stages of project fulfillment.
  • Close-out, warranty, close-out/record documentation and deliver to the entity managing for a given build.
  • Manage Warranty and Field Service requests from each site. May consist of sending replacement parts, sending an IEM technician to site (site construction manager, general contractor, electrical sub-contractor)

 

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and a minimum 5 years of experience as a successful Project Manager in a busy/fast paced environment are required.
  • Being flexible and exhibiting an outgoing/service-oriented and positive personality is a must. 
  • Strong organizational, written and verbal skills, excellent attention to detail, and strong proficiency in Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint are also required. 
  • The ability to prioritize and be effective with many “moving pieces” without supervision is a must. 
  • A technical background or experience in a manufacturing/sales environment is a plus.

 


FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER (SWITCHGEAR AND CONTROLS) - CALIFORNIA

Purpose of Position:

In this newly created position, you will be responsible for site project management,  hands-on field service work and commissioning of IEM equipment at customer sites primarily on the West Coast.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Attending project meetings and coordinating with high profile clients at multiple sites
  • Commissioning of switchgear, power products and related control systems. 
  • Working with systems integrators to facilitate communication with other vendors’ equipment, including but not limited to generators, UPS’s and SCADA systems
  • Creating and Maintaining issue tracking logs for multiple sites with multiple pieces of IEM equipment
  • Coordinating with our manufacturing facilities to find solutions to product or commissioning issues identified by IEM or reported by the customer in the field
  • Working with the Field Service Administrator to help schedule additional field resources or teams to cover service needs
  • Performing preventive maintenance, field installations and modifications
  • Technical product support and troubleshooting
  • Working with project engineers and project managers to select and coordinate the replacement of parts

 

Education and Experience:

  • A technical degree or equivalent and a minimum 3 yrs. of experience working in a field service role working with electrical equipment, switchgear highly preferred.
  • A willingness to travel (up to 80%), being a team player, having strong communication skills and an ability to work independently without supervision
  • Living near a major airport in CA
  • WILL RELOCATE from out of state for this position.

FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN (ELECTRICAL) - BOARDMAN, OR

We will relocate to Boardman, OR, which is an emerging hub of data, technology, and renewable energy along the banks of the beautiful Columbia River.

IEM will provide training on our specific equipment and commissioning process.

 

Purpose of Position:

You will be responsible for hands-on field service work at customer sites, with a focus on installation of components and subassemblies, and basic commissioning of IEM equipment primarily in data center or industrial applications. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Attending project meetings as required, including coordination with contractors and clients.
  • Installation and modification of electrical or mechanical components and subassemblies which may include: Panelboard interiors; Circuit breakers; Bus bar; Switchgear section doors and subpanels; Addition of control components; Power Cabling and control wiring;
  • Perform basic testing of modified assemblies (visual, ductor, etc.).
  • Perform basic commissioning of switchboards, controls panels, and power products.
  • Troubleshooting of electrical circuits and networking equipment.
  • Coordinating with Technical Project Manager or manufacturing facilities to find solutions to product or commissioning issues identified by IEM or reported by the customer in the field, and identifying additional field resources needed for installation and replacement parts
  • Performing preventive maintenance, field installations and modifications to existing equipment
  • Technical product support

 

Education and Experience:

  • A technical degree or equivalent and 1-2 yrs. of experience working in a manufacturing environment or field service role with electrical equipment.

SWITCHGEAR LEAD DESIGN ENGINEER (DATA CENTER PRODUCTS) - JACKSONVILLE, FL

Purpose of position:

In this newly created position, you will be responsible for supervisory design of power products, primarily for data center applications.  In addition to designing products, you will provide oversight and guidance to junior engineers to create an overall package.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Create drawing package for custom equipment, including LV and MV switchgear, switchboards, ATS’s, control panels, and other power products.
  • Select components and create detailed bills of materials
  • Collaborate with mechanical design team to generate layout drawings of IEM equipment
  • Review customer plans and specs, raising any discrepancies in IEM product offering
  • Review and redline drawings completed from other engineers, primarily for data center clients.  Suggest solutions or alternate designs, where applicable.
  • Ensure that drawing packages created by different design engineers are complete and create a consistent package that meet requirements for particular data center clients.
  • Perform order coordination duties to ensure that the greater engineering team is meeting obligations for data center clients.  Provide feedback to commercial, project management, or field service teams within IEM for any problem items.
  • Attend customer design meetings and participate in factory witness tests.
  • Complete programming assignments for automation components, protective relays, digital meters, communication devices, etc.
  • Provide technical training and product support

 

Education and Experience:

  • A BSEE or equivalent and a minimum 5 years of experience designing MV/LVSwitchgear.  This must include a solid grasp of three-phase electric power concepts including distribution systems, control and protection strategies.
  • Familiarity with the National Electric Code and UL / IEEE standards for various types of electrical equipment (UL 891, 1558, 508A; IEEE C37.20, etc.)
  • Must be a team player with strong verbal/written communication skills and self-motivated with an ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Must have experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office products.
  • Previous mentoring or training experience highly preferred.

 


FIELD SERVICE ENGINEERS (SWITCHGEAR) - STERLING, VA, JACKSONVILLE, FL, AND MID/WEST COAST

Purpose of Position:

IEM is seeking hands-on field engineers to support the modification of switchgear and controls, with a focus on industrial automation equipment. The professional chosen for this position will work with the IEM team to assess, troubleshoot, and commission industrial networking and automation hardware into existing customer sites.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Perform inspections, troubleshooting, and commissioning of a diverse range of LV/MV power and control products. These systems may include automation systems, PLCs, and / or data acquisition systems
  • Identify and propose solutions to system integration issues with equipment from other vendors, including generator sets, UPS’s, transformers, servers, etc.
  • Modify Programs for complex automation and protective relaying systems
  • Identify and propose solutions to product, application, or commissioning issues as reported by customers in the field
  • Provide training for end users at customer sites
  • Travel to customer sites, up to 80%, depending on location
  • Technical product support
  • Document all service related activity

 

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum 2 years of experience in the field working with SWITCHGEAR and  electrical distribution equipment
  • Must be able to manage a jobsite independently, creating and executing a plan from a high level directive
  • Familiarity with: lock out tag out procedures involving multiple power sources; Modbus TCP/Serial, Ethernet/IP and networking concepts, troubleshooting of switchgear functions such as circuit breaker mis-operations
  • Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Customer coordination experience with excellent communication skills

 


SWITCHGEAR & CONTROLS DESIGN ENGINEER - JACKSONVILLE, FL

Purpose of Position:

This position is responsible for the design of custom MV/LV switchgear for commercial applications, often projects ranging from $300K to $40 million.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Create drawings and bills of materials from which IEM will build custom electrical switchgear/switchboards (control systems involving PLC’s, intelligent controllers and protective relays will be implemented within designs)
  • Write detailed Sequences of Operation on certain projects with automation components
  • Travel to customer sites occasionally for commissioning, troubleshooting or evaluation purposes as well as travel for job training, project testing or other project related business (should not exceed 10%)

 

Education and Experience:

  • A BSEE or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years designing MV/LV SWITCHGEAR including an understanding of basic electrical and control system principles and a familiarity with reading electrical schematics, three-line diagrams and control/communications diagrams. 
  • Previous hands-on field experience, willingness to travel, excellent skills with Microsoft Office products and AUTOCAD
  • Knowledge of IEEE/ANSI C37.20,  UL891/1558 design guidelines, NFPA70E and industrial automation are desirable. 
  • A positive attitude, attention to detail, pride in workmanship,  a team player, excellent communication skills

 


TECHNICIAN (POWER PRODUCTS) - STERLING, VA

Purpose of Position:

This position is responsible for hands-on field service work at customer sites, with a focus on installation of components and subassemblies, wiring, and basic commissioning of IEM equipment primarily in data center or industrial applications.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Installation and modification of mechanical components and subassemblies of panel board interiors, circuit breakers, bus bar, doors and subpanels, Perform basic testing of modified assemblies (visual, ductor, etc.).
  • Installation and modification of electrical/control components, including wiring.  Perform basic testing (continuity checks, initial power up)
  • Coordinate with Field Project Manager and/or manufacturing facilities to find solutions to product or commissioning issues identified by IEM or reported by the customer in the field
  • Work with the Field Project Manager to identify if additional field resources will be needed
  • Perform equipment inspections upon arrival and after installation; document deficiencies
  • Perform preventive maintenance, field installations and modifications

 

Education and Experience

  • A technical/vocational degree or equivalent and a minimum 1 yr. of experience working in a manufacturing environment or field service role with a focus on power products.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time. The majority of work is expected to be within (50) miles of Sterling, VA, but domestic or travel internationally may occasionally be required.  Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.

SUPERVISOR OF TEST DEPARTMENT – JACKSONVILLE, FL

Purpose of Position:

This position is responsible for supervising the employees of the In Factory Test Department to ensure manufactured equipment is in compliance with all functional test requirements, and customer expected shipping schedules are maintained. Perform testing as required and assist Engineering and Commercial Services Departments regarding schedule and documentation related issues. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Experienced in the manufacture and testing of Low and Medium Voltage switchboards and switchgear up to 38kV
  • Experienced in the manufacture and testing of Industrial Control Panels
  • Schedule all testing personnel to meet required ship dates.
  • Assist Scheduling and Commercial Services Departments in preparing overall production planning and shipping schedules.
  • Provide training and support to staff as needed.
  • Develop custom test reports as required. Assist field service group with detailed site acceptance documents when needed.
  • Maintain standard test records and documentation for all equipment manufactured in factories
  • Confirm all test reports, time, redlines and vendor supplied reports are properly filed prior to equipment shipping.
  • Investigate and work with Engineering to resolve technical issues.
  • Perform inspections and wiring checks.
  • Work with the Automation group on programming of multi-function meters, protective relays and multi-function controllers.
  • Work with Automation group on Testing of PLC and HMI programs.
  • Perform dielectric strength testing per all regulatory standards.
  • Initial powering of A/C, D/C and control circuits.
  • Verify proper operation of equipment per IEM drawings and sequence of operation.
  • Handle coordination with production and scheduling groups to maintain shipping schedules.
  • Perform other duties which may be required by supervisor.
