R&D MANAGER - LV - TUALATIN, OR
Purpose of Position

Oversees Research and Development efforts related to IEM’s Low Voltage (0-1000V) product portfolio. Leads a team of engineers responsible for the conceptual and detailed mechanical design of new products, working with Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTL’s) to define test samples as required to expand IEM’s certified product portfolio.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Build and manage a team of R&D engineers to expand and expedite the New Product Development Design Process 
  • Foster a culture of ownership over assigned tasks and products. 
  • Conduct Research to aid in development of new products best suited for the markets IEM serves 
  • Initiate projects as directed by the steering committee; Identify potential blockers to timely success 
  • Assign Orders to maximize efficiency and output of the team. Communicate dates to Project Management 
  • Track Projects through scoping, design and prototyping stage. Ensure Design deliverables are met on schedule. 
  • Ensure that Mechanical Designers understand tooling required to fabricate parts, work closely with Manufacturing Engineering Teams, and that they keep Design for Manufacturability at the forefront 
  • Ensure that all designers are following the documented industry-standard design processes. When processes are not documented, create drafts to fill any gaps for approval by stakeholders 
  • Review, redline and advise on your team’s design deliverables. Ensure accuracy and consistency. 
  •  Attend regular meetings with UL and other NRTL’s.

 

Competencies:

  • Experience in leadership and mentoring and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Strong Technical Capability 
  • Power engineering as it relates to LV equipment from 120V to 1000V 
  • Understanding NRTL certifications and UL listings in low voltage power distribution systems, including electrical, thermal, and mechanical considerations.
  • Knowledge of IEEE/ANSI C37.20, UL891/1558, UL67 design guidelines and NFPA70E are desirable.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate across teams.

 

Education and Experience: 

  • Four-year college degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in R&D, product development, or a related field within the power distribution industry.
  • At least 3 years of experience in Engineering Management with direct supervision of engineers.
  • Demonstrated track record of leading successful engineering projects and developing new technologies.

 

Salary Range: $150,800.00 To $187,200.00 Annually. Depending on experience.
