IEM Opens New Power Lab to Expand Testing and R&D Capabilities
November 20, 2024
Fremont, California – Nov. 20, 2024 – Industrial Electric Mfg. (IEM), a leading provider of custom power distribution and control systems for over 75 years, has opened a new facility in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area dedicated to product research, development and testing, expanding its in-house engineering and validation capabilities.
The IEM Power Lab is designed to support a range of testing and development services, including design validation, UL-accredited type testing, evaluation of manufacturing techniques and rapid prototyping. The facility also supports forensic investigations, failure analysis, and the development of specialized production and testing equipment.
“This state-of-the-art lab represents a significant investment in our engineering capabilities and allows us to accelerate innovation to better serve customer needs,” said Ryan Gibson, Executive Vice President of Engineering at IEM. “Expanding our in-house testing capacity allows us to accelerate development timelines while maintaining the high standards of quality and reliability our customers expect.”
With cutting-edge technology and innovative lab services, this space reflects IEM’s commitment to excellence and growth. “As we open our doors, we enhance our capabilities and reaffirm our dedication to rigorous research, development, and testing at the highest industry standards,” said Gibson.
The lab strengthens IEM’s ability to perform advanced electrical testing internally, with capabilities that include continuous current testing up to 6,000 amperes, lightning impulse testing up to 300 kilovolts and dielectric withstand testing up to 200 kilovolts.
The facility also supports partial discharge testing in accordance with IEC 60270, mechanical endurance and performance testing, and environmental testing such as rain and spray exposure for outdoor equipment. Functional and safety testing of controls are also conducted on-site. In addition, the lab provides instrument and meter verification and calibration services to support accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
